Pavan Kota, a Ph.D. student in Bioengineering (BIOE) at Rice, has received a two-year Activate Fellowship to continue the development of rapid microbial testing through his company, Anvil Diagnostics. Activate is a nonprofit organization that supports entrepreneurial scientists in bringing their research to market.

Kota is co-advised by Rebekah Drezek, professor of BIOE and Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), and Richard Baraniuk, professor of ECE. His research is focused on developing new technology to better diagnostic efforts among bacterial and fungal infections.
