GMI Student Perspectives | Aedan Mangan: Keep Those Feet Moving

Reflections from Global Medical Innovation MBE students.

GMI students in a classroom.

The past month has been great! Ellie and I were able to start off observing at THI and see three catheter ablations. Through mind mapping and breaking down the various processes, we were able to find some interesting unmet needs. At the end of this week, we will be able to receive more feedback from physicians through an in person interview.

We also were able to start our rotation at Texas Children’s and observe one procedure. It has been awesome to be in the clinical setting; the observations we have will be a great help in guiding the scope of our projects during the school year!

Working at CDI has been great! The people and facilities are fantastic. My project is centered around developing an in-house prototyping method for catheter balloons. It is challenging, but I am definitely enjoying the process.

I am also able to lend a hand on some other projects. It is awesome to see how open people are at CDI and the collaborative environment that has been created here because of that.

I was able to visit a friend (from Ohio) in Austin over the 4th of July which was a lot of fun. I have only skimmed the surface in terms of exploring Houston, but the food here has been great! Some of the best Chick-fil-A I have ever had. (I am only half joking about that.) There have been a couple of places which I was really impressed with. Also, if anyone knows of a good pizza place in Houston, please let me know!

I am looking forward to the rest of the summer at CDI and observing at Texas Children’s. It is crazy that the summer is already half-way over; it will be exciting to see how the summer wraps up!
