Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellow or Lecturer

The Department of Bioengineering at Rice University, located in Houston, TX, seeks applications for a creative and motivated individual for the position of Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellow or Lecturer, with a start date of August 2018. We encourage recent Ph.D. graduates with an interest in teaching undergraduates, but less than two years of teaching experience to apply for the Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellow position. Candidates with more teaching experience are encouraged to apply and will be considered for the rank of Lecturer.

Both Post-Doctoral Teaching Fellows and Lecturers are non-tenure-track positions. For applicants who are interested in long-term growth in the teaching professions, Rice also offers a new Teaching Professor track.

The individual would be fully engaged in the Bachelors (B.S.) degree program. Candidates must have completed a Ph.D. in bioengineering/biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering. The position has specific responsibilities:

  1. Teach multiple sections of undergraduate laboratory courses including Bio-instrumentation and Biomechanics,
  2. Co-teach the Capstone Design course,
  3. Upgrade and/or develop a new laboratory or lecture course for B.S. students, and
  4. Facilitate several problem-based learning groups in the introductory Bioengineering Fundamentals course.

The Rice University Department of Bioengineering has approximately 50 undergraduate students in each entering class. The bioengineering undergraduate and doctoral degree programs have been ranked in the top 10 in the nation for more than a decade. Our educational and research endeavors are enhanced by Rice’s close proximity to the Texas Medical Center. Rice is located in the center of Houston, Texas, the nation’s 4th largest metropolitan area. Houston is an unstoppable city that offers affordable housing, a tremendously diverse population, over 11,000 restaurants, a thriving arts and museum culture, and the 2017 World Series Champions!

To apply, send a curriculum vitae, statement of teaching interests and pedagogical experience, and contact information for at least three references to http://jobs.rice.edu/postings/12252. Applications will be reviewed starting in February 2018.
