Undergraduate Degree Requirements

The Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering (B.S.B.)

Rice GraduationOf the 134 total credits, a non-thesis Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering (B.S.B.) requires 95 credits in General Math and Science courses, and Bioengineering Core and Technical Elective courses. The following list of courses is for students who will graduate with the class of 2010 and following. Timetables and checklists are on the sidebar below the main menu in a box titled Graduation Requirement Information.

General math and science courses

To provide students with a fundamental understanding of mathematics and the natural, life and medical sciences, all freshmen students considering a B.S. in Bioengineering take the following foundation courses:

*Bioengineering students are required to take two advanced laboratory courses.

Bioengineering technical elective courses

Students select three required technical courses that are consistent with their career interests. The technical electives must total nine credit hours.

Each technical elective is assigned between zero and three engineering points. Students are required to take courses that total six or more engineering points. The number of engineering points is published along with courses offered each semester.
